Driving Towards a Greener Future: Harwoods Audi’s Sustainability Commitments
At Harwoods Audi, sustainability is embedded in our strategy, from energy efficiency and waste reduction to EV infrastructure and industry-leading recycling initiatives, here’s how we’re shaping a more sustainable future:
100% Renewable Electricity
As of 2023, all electricity used across Harwoods Audi sites is sourced entirely from renewable suppliers, supporting cleaner energy and lowering our carbon footprint.
Zero Waste to Landfill
Since 2023, with the support of our waste management partner, we’ve committed to ensuring that no general waste from our sites is sent to landfill — a major step in responsible waste handling.
Solar Energy Milestone
In 2024, solar panels across the Harwoods Group generated 118,924 kWh of electricity, contributing significantly to our renewable energy usage.
Lighting the Way with LED Upgrades
Energy-saving LED lighting installations were completed at our Crawley, Five Oaks, and Southampton Audi sites in 2024, reducing our collective electrical consumption by 27,312 kWh.
Paperless by 2025
We are on track to become fully paperless across all Harwoods sites, including Head Office, by the end of 2025 — part of our ongoing digital transformation and environmental responsibility.
Expanding EV Charging
With 73 electric vehicle charging points currently installed across the group and a confirmed plan to increase this to 93 in 2025, we’re actively supporting the transition to electric mobility for both staff and customers.
Recycling IT Responsibly
We are proud to recycle 100% of surplus PCs, mobile phones, and other IT hardware, ensuring these materials are processed responsibly and securely.
Used Oil Recycling with Real Impact
Through our partnership with Slicker Recycling, we recycle 100% of used engine oil from our workshop operations and the environmental impact is significant:
Audi-specific savings (based on 92,600 litres annually):
45,245 kg of CO₂ saved compared to base oil made from virgin crude
Equivalent to the carbon offset of planting 1,810 trees
28,186 kg of CO₂ saved compared to PFO (Processed Fuel Oil) production
Equivalent to 1,127 trees
Group-wide savings (based on 297,800 litres annually):
145,508 kg of CO₂ saved compared to base oil from virgin crude
Equivalent to 5,820 trees
90,644 kg of CO₂ saved compared to PFO
Equivalent to 3,626 trees
This process is 37% more carbon efficient than traditional alternatives, helping us contribute to a circular economy.
Sustainability Recognition
We’re delighted that Portsmouth Audi and Crawley Audi have each achieved Bronze status in the Volkswagen Group’s “Go To Zero” sustainability audit — one of only two UK sites in the VAG network to hold this accolade, which highlights continued progress in carbon reduction and environmental performance.
Our Journey Continues
These achievements represent just part of our commitment to creating a more sustainable future. At Harwoods Audi, we will continue to invest in responsible practices that benefit our customers, our communities, and the planet.
