Introduction to UK Gender Pay Gap 2024
At Harwoods, fairness is at the heart of everything we do. It is a principle we abide by, which defines the manner in which we interact with our customers or with each other within the workplace. The data shown here reflects the gender balance within our organisation as of 5th April 2024. It measures the difference between the average earnings of all male and female employees irrespective of their role, length of service or seniority.
The automotive sector has traditionally attracted a larger percentage of male applicants and we have been working hard to address the gender imbalance. We are supportive of the Government’s decision to require organisations such as our own, to publish their gender pay gap statistics to help us focus on this area of our business. Our aim is to ensure that all departments throughout the business are committed to attracting, retaining, and developing the careers of female employees, with our founding principle being to hire on capability, irrespective of gender. In summary, the metrics demonstrate for every £1.00 earned by a male, a female earns £0.89 (median) and therefore their median hourly pay is 10.6% lower.
Females occupy 16.6% of the highest paid roles and 32.9% of lowest paid roles within our organisation. In respect of bonus payments, 77.3% of females earned a bonus compared with 82.6% of males. This small decrease from 2023 is attributed to a review of how mostly admin related employees pay was calculated and previous bonus payments were incorporated into the basic salary instead.
We recognise that this is an ongoing focus area for Harwoods and whilst we have made significant improvements towards levelling the Gender Pay Gap over recent years, it is something that remains on the agenda of the Board of Directors.
We have increased our internal recruitment team to help us focus on ensuring we attract the very best talent across our portfolio, irrespective of gender. We have females leading the following departments:
Sales & Marketing
Payroll
Brand Marketing
Employee Relations
Learning and Recruitment
3 females lead our Aftersales Depts
We are proud to have more females involved in all areas of our business and look forward to building upon the progress we have made over the last 4 years. Should you wish to view more information on our success, please go to: https://gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk/employers/5986/reporting-year-2024
